““No,” Peter protested, “you will never ever wash my feet!” Jesus replied, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.” Simon Peter exclaimed, “Then wash my hands and head as well, Lord, not just my feet!””
John 13:8-9 NLT
As soon as St. Peter heard the horrifying warning “Unless I wash you, you won’t BELONG to me”, he exclaimed reactively “wash me entirely”! Can you imagine NOT BELONGING TO JESUS?! Who can bare to be separated from Him Who is LIFE?! Life without Him is death! Would you prefer to belong to YOUR OWN WAY of thinking, your OWN DESIRES and your OWN PLANS?! But what if those are misplaced, wrong, incomplete and ultimately catastrophic to you??
Surrender to God’s will and plans and the outcome will surely be the best! Meditate on St. Peter’s motivation in his response. It is the motivation to ALWAYS BELONG TO JESUS! Cry out with him to Jesus and say “not only my feet, Lord, but wash my hands and head as well...[wash me entirely]!” All I desire is YOU Lord! How beautiful are the words of the Psalmist who chanted saying “Whom have I in heaven but You. And with you I desire nothing on earth!” (Ps. 73:25)
So Lord, let me ALWAYS belong to You! Let my family belong to You! Let my children belong to You! Let my Church belong to You! Let my city, country and the whole world belong to You! WASH US ENTIRELY!!
